How it works
- 1
Tell us about your work
Trade, state and ZIP, gross receipts, field employees, years in business and the limit you need.
- 2
We prepare your price
We use your answers to get a price in the ISC program and send it to you. When installments are available, we also tell you the down payment and the monthly payments.
- 3
We confirm the details and bind the policy
Our specialist checks the details with you, the insurer confirms the final price, and the policy can be signed electronically. Then you can get a COI for your customer.
What general liability covers
- Injuries to other people caused by your work: a customer trips over your cable, a passerby is hit by falling material.
- Damage to someone else's property: a leak after plumbing work, a scratched floor, a broken window.
- Legal defense when someone makes a covered claim against your business.
- Claims that come up after the job is finished (completed operations), when the policy includes it.
What it does not cover
- Your own tools and equipment: that needs tools and equipment coverage.
- Injuries to your own workers: that is workers' compensation.
- Your vehicles: that is commercial auto insurance.
- Fixing or redoing your own poor work: usually excluded.
Three program levels: Standard, Plus, Advantage
ISC offers contractor general liability in three levels. Which ones are open to you depends on your trade, state and history.
Standard
New businesses are accepted. We tell you which level fits your business.
Plus
Usually requires at least 3 years in business. New businesses are accepted only for some trades.
Advantage
Usually requires at least 3 years in business, new businesses only for some trades. Uses a newer ISO policy form.
We do not list prices here because they depend on your trade, state, gross receipts and claims history. Both occurrence and claims made forms exist: ISC recommends occurrence, claims made is usually cheaper but works differently. We explain the difference before you choose.

Frequently asked questions
Is the price we send you the final price?
No. We prepare the price from your answers in the ISC program. The insurer confirms the final price and terms, including any taxes and fees, after reviewing your application. If your answers change, the price can change too.
What does non-admitted (surplus lines) mean?
The ISC contractor program is written by non-admitted insurers, also called surplus lines. They must be eligible to write surplus lines in your state, but their rates and policy forms are not approved by the state the way an admitted insurer's are. That gives more flexibility, for example for new businesses. In most states the state guaranty fund does not cover non-admitted policies, and a state surplus lines tax usually applies. Our specialist explains this before you buy.
Do I need a certificate of insurance (COI)?
Often yes. General contractors, property managers and many homeowners ask for a COI before you start work. It shows that you carry general liability. Once your policy is issued, we arrange a COI with your customer as the certificate holder.
Can I pay in installments?
Often yes. When financing is available for your policy, we tell you the down payment, the monthly payment and the number of payments. Final payment terms are confirmed when the policy is bound.

Claims from other people for bodily injury or property damage caused by your work, plus legal defense for covered claims. It does not cover your tools, injuries to your own workers (that is workers' compensation) or your vehicles (that is commercial auto).
